How This Started

Sam DiVine trained under the best — Vidal Sassoon in Santa Monica, then Sally Hershberger — and came out knowing exactly what she wanted to build. At 24, she opened Society with no investors, no celebrity backing, and a clear plan: create a salon where the craft is world-class, the culture is real, and the experience feels nothing like an obligation.

Eleven years later, that plan has only gotten sharper. The best salons don't happen by accident. They happen when good work is non-negotiable, the team is invested in being there, and clients feel the difference the moment they walk in.

Our Philosophy

100% Talent.
0% Pretention.

Society is built on craft. Every stylist here has earned their position through structured training, consistent results, and a genuine obsession with getting it right. We invest heavily in education. We don't cut corners. We don't rush.

Every guest gets the same precision and attention to detail. Unreasonable hospitality isn't a marketing phrase — it's how we operate.

The space is clean, bright, and warm. The experience is elevated and personal. Stylists who've been trained rigorously, who show up early, who make sure your cappuccino is perfect before it reaches you, and who remember exactly what you discussed last time. That's the standard. Now that you've learned a bit about Society as whole it's time to meet the people behind the magic, you're new stylists and colorists.

Real Training. Real Investment.

Society invests roughly $20,000 in each new artist through structured education, dedicated mentorship, and ongoing refinement. That's not overhead—it's the opposite. It's the reason our stylists are better. It's why our clients stay.

We believe in a clear growth path. New assistants don't just pick up scissors when they're ready. They move through a structured progression with defined milestones, consistent feedback, and transparent metrics. Training isn't something that happens on the side. It's core to what we do.

The Fellowship Program

Our Fellowship program reimagines how mentorship gets rewarded. Senior stylists who train the next generation earn a share of their mentee's revenue growth — aligning incentives so that teaching becomes as profitable as doing. Instead of penalizing experienced artists for mentoring, we reward them for it.

A Real Career Track

The best salons don't lose their best people. They promote them. At Society, the path is clear: master your craft, develop your book, lead your peers. For artists who hit the top tier, there's a path to co-ownership—to building equity in a location, to scaling what works, to being a real partner in growth. This isn't franchise language. It's the framework we've built to grow talent, align incentives, and scale the right way.

Waste Isn't Our Standard

Society partners with Green Circle to recycle 95% of salon waste—color, foils, plastic, everything. We don't post about it because it shouldn't be remarkable. It's just responsible. Sustainability isn't a marketing initiative; it's how you run a business for the long term.
